Assessments/Placement

Assessments

Assessment is used to rate players so that each level and each team has parity of talent. Players interested in Minor AA through Majors must attend at least one assessment date. Players in T-Ball through Minor A do not attend assessments unless they want to change to the Minor AA division or higher.

LOCATION:  Keiser Park, Field B and/or C

CHECK-IN:  Opens 30 minutes prior to assessment start time. Players must be ready to start at the time indicated or you will have to wait for the next group.

What happens at assessments?
Players will be assessed in various baseball skills: batting, fielding - both fly and ground balls, throwing, and running. Evaluators will rate each player; scores will then be combined to reach an average score. Those scores will then be used to distribute talent across the teams in each division so parity is achieved.

What happens if it rains?
Official alternative dates for assessments have been identified:
Jan. 25 / 26, 2025

IMPORTANT: Assessments have been rescheduled from Jan. 18 / 19 to the alternative dates. Please refer to the schedule above.

What if I cannot make my assigned time slot?
It is more important for your child to assess with their division than for them to assess on the day of their last name. IF YOU HAVE A SCHEDULING CONFLICT, WE PREFER THAT YOU SHOW UP AT ANOTHER TIME SLOT RATHER THAN NOT AT ALL. Please email us at 707windsorbaseball@gmail.com if you need to join another time slot.

When should I arrive?
Players should arrive 30 minutes prior to their assessment time to warm up and check in.

What if my player wants to play up a division?
Players wishing to play up a division must attend both assessments for their current division and the division they would like to participate in. For example, a player in AAA wishing to play up in Majors must attend assessments for both AAA and Majors.

What if a player does not want to attend?
All players are expected to attend at least one tryout for the division they wish to participate in. Players who miss assessments and wish to play up are not guaranteed a spot in that division.

Player Placement

Teams in all divisions, except Majors and Minors AAA, will be formed by a Committee comprised of the President and/or Vice President, Player Agent, and all Division Reps. Each division uses the selection process identified below for placing players on teams.

Majors Draft: A committee of 3 (none from Majors) will evaluate and grade each player in attendance on a scale of 1 - 5 for each station (hitting, fielding, outfield, etc.). Total combined/overall scores will be used to establish a pool of players eligible for selection: roster spots (# of teams x 12 per team) + 8 additional names. Pool will include all returning Majors players.
Majors coaches may ONLY draft from this pool.

**All Stars: only players drafted to Majors will be considered for the 12U and 11U tournament teams.

Minors AAA (partial-draft): A committee of 3 or more will evaluate and grade each player in attendance on a scale of 1 - 3 for each station (hitting, fielding, outfield, etc.). Total combined/overall score will be used to establish a pool of players eligible for selection: roster (# of teams x 12 per team) +  6 additional names.

Any 10-year-olds not drafted will be placed in Minor AA. AAA coaches may ONLY draft from this pool. Non-drafted 11 and 12-year-olds will be assigned to Minor AAA and will be grouped in such a manner as to form an equitable beginning roster. This roster will be selected in a blind draw prior to start of draft.
